Overview

We are building a community for members to collaborate with each other on basic research.

We want to harness the passion that people often have for side projects that they are otherwise unable to focus on, due to work and other commitments.

We recognise that innovation is a loaded term, and is often misused. Companies pay lip service to innovation. We believe that innovation = idea + implementation, and that true innovation requires one to embrace the possibility of failure; something that companies frown upon.

The spawning grounds of innovation are mixed communities of passionate people who enjoy exploration and discovery. Ideas come from play, not from sitting at a desk in an office.

We are seeking good problems, and we believe that inventions will lead to other inventions, perhaps in entirely unrelated fields.

The Proposal

1. Create a not-for-profit “incorporated association” that operates as a club.
2. Invite members to join for an annual membership fee of around AU$500.
3. Provide resources, including Notion, Slack, Github and Google Workspace.
4. Seek sponsorship to allow us to maintain a research budget to fund projects.
5. Hold regular events, including presentations and social gatherings.

Membership

We expect members to come from a variety of places:

• Working professionals who have cut down to 3 or 4 days a week.
• Entrepreneurs who are looking for their next startup idea.
• Graduate students who are not yet ready to enter the workforce.
• Retirees who want to work on a passion project, or fix a problem.
